Christmas Day 2007

One minor issue--- nothing in Ada is open on Christmas Day! I called every restaurant (and then every quick stop that serves pizza) and nothing was open. So, we improvised and, courtesy D&W, rounded up enough supplies to have hamburgers and chips (as anyone who knows me knows I keep no food in the house). Mom made some tasty monkey bread and we had a pretty good time. But, I guess we'll know better next year. We had a beautiful snow the next day... just hours late of a Christmas snow!

New Family Pictures

I've uploaded over 30 new family pictures, mostly from the 1960s, including this one of Dixie, Ted, Bob and Bruce A.

If you recognize any pictures posted, please help me out by making a comment. Things that would be helpful are if the ID is incorrect, where and when the picture was taken and/or a short story of what you remember about the event in the picture. I'll use that information to better label the pictures and add any stories to my family tree!

You'll need to be a member of Flickr before you can post comments. To be a member, just accept the invitation I sent you. If I haven't sent you an invitation yet, just email me or you can join right from Flickr (click "sign up" or "sign in" if you already have a Yahoo! ID). Those links are right under the picture and space for leaving a comment.

Head over to Flickr Tags (click the link at right). This should give you a list of Photo Tags (you may have to click "Show all Tags"). Make one or more selections of who you want to see pictures off, choose you search selection, and click "Display Photos." This is still pretty new, so it may not be perfect... yet. If you have any problems, let me know.

Things to keep in mind...

  • Tags are formatted LastnameFirstName
  • Tags for women are MaidennameMarriednameFirstname
  • You can also click event tags, like Christmas
  • You can select more than one tag to see pictures of two or more persons together in the same photo. Just select the "Show photos with all of the selected tags" option.

Branson Trip

The weekend of the 20th would have been dads 52nd birthday and a month since "it' happened, so mom and I decided we needed a little distraction. We loaded up and went to Branson. Now you might think that Branson and I don't seem a good fit. I hate live shows, at least what is shown there. The names—Baldknobbers—for instance, makes me instantly nauseous. But, I am a big Titanic buff and wanted to see "the World's Largest Museum Attraction." As anyone who knows me will attest, I am horrible with directions. I got lost getting to Ada once, and I'm not joking (that's another story). So, I had my trusty yet often ill-advised GPS with me. All went well until we took a wrong exit near Branson. For some reason we decided to trust the GPS to get up back onto the highway rather than common sense. That took about an hour. But, I must say we saw some pretty country on the often one lane, often unpaved roads back to the highway. If you ever somehow run across "Sawmill Road" be sure to take it. Anyhow, we finally make it to Branson and go first to what I thought was a Welcome Center, but was in fact only a place trying to sell $200,000 time shares. I do not have $200,000. Along we went. By the time we go to the hotel, we were so tired and my head hurt so badly from the altitude changes and general allergy issues (I'm such a baby), we crashed for the day. So much for day 1.

Day 2 was much better. It was a beautiful day and since rain was expected for the next two days (what luck), we decided to do the "outdoor" stuff. I had my first experience with a "Roundabout" intersection. I was like… oh my gosh… what is happening here?? It wasn't that bad, though. I'm thinking about recommending it for crazy corner. Anyway, we went to the new "Branson Landing" first. The place was very nice; it just opened last year. It had a lot of neat shops. I had never been to a "Kirkland's" before, but that's a very cool store. I bought way too much stuff. Mom did some clothe shopping, so I walked down the boardwalk of Lake Taneycomo (I think). It was very nice. They had a water and fire show that was very impressive. There was also a little park next to the Landing, which I though was strange but neat. After the Landing, we went to "Tanger Outlet." That place sucked. That night we went back to the Landing and ate at a steakhouse on the patio and watched the light and fire show. It was more impressive at night.

Day 3 was cold, rainy and windy… ahhh, just as I had planned! We went to the Titanic Museum first. That would have to be the most impressive building I have ever been to. The museum was interesting, but not quite as fun as I had planned. A lot of that had to do with the crowd, I'm sure. This was Monday at 10 AM, so I didn't expect that. Plus, I had been to the exhibit in OKC and a lot of it felt the same. The Grand Staircase was very impressive though, and that's something OKC didn't have. For a second there, you almost feel like you're there. I was quite disappointed I couldn't take pictures or video (but I did get to buy the pic in my photo gallery for $22!). Always the rebel, I took some pictures of posters that were in the bathroom. Then, my ingenious plan… I put my camera on video and stuck it out my jacket pocket and video taped the Grand Staircase and the cabin recreation. You should see this video. It is the most entertaining part of the whole trip. There is absolutely nothing of worth here. I got the floor a lot, the ceiling a lot, but nothing I thought I was taping. I shall keep it for posterity. We also went to Dick Clarks AB Grill (not that great) and to '57 Heaven. I had my reservations about paying $40 for this (for the pair), but it was really fun. It was really deserted (we were the only ones for a time), so we got to browse at our leisure. There were many, many 1957 cars and trucks restored to mint condition. I especially liked the trucks. The paint jobs on these things were amazing (we noted how boring today's vehicles are). They had also recreated 1950s scenes like Main Street, a repair shop, drive-in theater, motel, and a typical home. There were people there to ask questions too; they were really nice. After seeing a poster of the buried Tulsa car and an identical restored car (not THE car, of course) we talked to a man about it. They said they had people there when it was unveiled and were trying to buy the Tulsa car. He was saying what bad shape it was in… even more than I had heard. Lastly, we went to an IMAX show (of which I have never been). Very impressive show… I was amazed (we saw "Hurricane on the Bayou," BTW).

Day 4 was more the same weather wise. Still on the list was the American Presidents museum, but we couldn't find it and I think we were both ready to head back anyway. So, just under an hour less than what it took us to get to Branson, we were home. Oh, wait… we lost that when I took a wrong exit getting back on the Interstate and had to drive the wrong direction for 20 miles. And then back. I really shouldn't be on the road. So there you have it… a trip to Branson, MO without taking in a single stupid show.

I'm Bored Survey

I'm Bored Survey

Current mood:sleepy

The Cure For Bordom Survey

Take This Survey to cure boredom. Have Fun!

1. How old will you be in five years? 31. There's something seriously scary about breaking into 30.

2. Who did you spend at least two hours with today? Ted, Ray, DiAnna and this customer who refused to leave.

3. How tall are you? 6'1"

4. What do you look forward to most in the next six weeks? Sadly, the only thing I can think of is that I get Saturday off work this week (so I can sleep in!).

5. What's the last movie you saw? Wild Hogs. We tried to see Premonition but it wasn't on yet. Then we tried 300 and it was sold out. So we went to Wild Hogs. I would have rather watched actual wild hogs than that movie.

6. Who was the last person you called? Karen at Chickasaw Nutrition

7. Who was the last person to call you? My mom with a computer question.

9. Who was the last person to leave you a voicemail? We don't have voicemail at work. If I happen not to be there and get a call, someone just takes a message and then doesn't give it to me. Works pretty effeciently.

20. Africa-NewZealand-Japan? That's not so much a question as it is three hypened words with a question mark. New Zealand seems a safe answer.

21. Where do you think you'll be in 10 years? I'm scared to think it will be in Ada.

22. Do you tan or burn? Tan

23. What did you fear was going to get you at night as a child? I don't recall being scared of anything in particular, but I do remember this time when I thought all the furniture was moving around me and that was pretty dang freaky. My mouse is cruising across the screen by itself right now. That's pretty freaky too.

24. What was the last thing that really made you laugh? Friend requests. I get like 15 "friend requests" a day from women who want to show me nude photos of themselves. I checked out one page b/c I wasn't sure if it was "one of those" or not (you can believe me or not, I don't care) and I noticed that a couple of people actually approved her as a friend (and one was from Ada). Not sure what they were expecting out of it, but in made me laugh nonetheless.

I'm a sucker for these surveys.

I'm a sucker for these surveys.

Current mood:blah

1. When you looked at yourself in the mirror today, what was the first thing you thought? My hair is crap.

2. How much cash do you have on you? Probably less than $20. I have almost completely stopped using cash. Yes, I am the wave of the future. My new credit card has the PayPass feature where I can just tap it on the little machine and go (don't have to sign the little stupid slip, usually). I am still waiting for the day when I do this without the cashier bothering me about it. Almost everytime, they say "You have to slide it" while doing a sliding visual effect with their hand. And, I'm like, A) no you don't and B) I know how to use a credit card. Either that or they try to take it from me while I go for the tap. A little training is in order here.

3. What's a word that rhymes with "DOOR?" Chore.

4. Favorite planet? I'm going to have to go with Earth on this one. Safe choice, I know.

5. Who is the 4th person on your missed call list on your cell phone? I don't want to walk in there and see. There's a good chance it's either home or work though.

10. Bright or Dark Room? As in light, bright. As in paint color, dark.

11. What do you think about the person who took this survey before you? she's cool.

13. What were you doing at midnight last night? sleeping

14. What did your last text message you received on your cell say? I don't do the text thing, but I got several over a two day period, such as "how's your day," "good morning," "what are you doin." etc. I finally responded "who is this" as I thought maybe I had a mystery admirer. Turns out, what I had was someone who had the wrong number. And cost me about 50 cents, BTW.

"Grown Up" survey to pass the time...

Current mood:blah

Any teenager can write a survey about their favorite class, or their secret crush, or how nice their car is that their parents paid for. This is the survey for the older crowd.

All my bills are on draft so I never look at them. I probably should.

Okay, that's officially an older crowd question. Now I will get a public service announcement that checking one's cholesterol is not something only older people should do. You just watch.

Not too bad... it was a Nokia 5160 that everyone on earth has had at some point or another. That was like 1999, I guess.

Good? No. Any? No.

15. Do you have a need for a PDA at work?

Every time. I'm going to say this is another "older person" question.

I have never attended a kegger--and I went to college!
